When Tigers Are Happy They Chuff Because They Can’t Purr

Chuff’s as they are called in the tiger world, are a response to not being able to purr.  Instead of the traditional sound you hear with domestic house cats, tigers make a very breathy shudder which is called chuffing.

The tigers you see here are Bengal tigers, native to India.  They look quite happy if you ask me and their keeper seems quite calm for being surrounded by meat eating tigers.  No matter how cute the chuffing, you wouldn’t catch me inside a fenced in cage with some tigers.

That’s just my two cents.
